What did you love about YA?
In the Youth Apprenticeship Program, I was able to explore many different healthcare related careers. I obtained certification as a nursing assistant, Health Unit Coordinator, Phlebotomist, and basic lab tech skills. I mostly enjoyed having the opportunity to experience each of these positions, and ultimately get an understanding of healthcare systems and available areas of employment.
How did YA influence your plans after high school?
While in the Youth Apprenticeship program, I was hired by Meriter as a CNA. After I graduated, I remained employed with Meriter for another 8 years. I was able to use my experience from the Youth Apprenticeship program to move into different roles at Meriter and obtain promotions!
What do you want others to know about YA?
It is an amazing opportunity to experience employment opportunities post high school. It allows students to get hands on experience in an area before committing to a major in college or area of work after high school!
